This class provides a clear, jargon-free update on the latest adjustments to premiums, deductibles, and the landmark changes to prescription drug costs. Mending 101 (Roosevelt)Arts & CraftsFind the meditative power of hand sewing, learn history of the craft and lessen your consumption by repairing your own clothes! Participants will walk away with a small mending kit, needles, string, and a reference guide for future mending endeavors. Skills learned: five basic stitching and patching methods to repair your woven garments. In partnership with Curiosity Studio. Accessibility: Previous sewing skills not required. WaitlistMetal Detecting 1 (Summer)Hobby & LeisureAn introductory class on how to use a metal detector - Learn how they operate, their uses, and what types of things you can find. Cover municipal regulations, best practices and courtesies, and how exactly to interpret what each beep means. From relic hunting to coin collecting, trying to find lost keys to finding the edge of a property line, Metal Detecting is a fantastic hobby with a wide range of uses. Participants will receive an overview of the above, followed by time to put it to practice and go on a hunt of their own! Each student will get to use an individual metal detector and free reign to explore and hunt. A staff will be present to assist and answer any questions during this period. Metal Detectors are quite light, weighing less than 3 pounds. Frequent standing/sitting/kneeling is expected for this activity. If the class is full, please sign up on the waitlist. We'll meet in front of Farmers Bar + Kitchen at 9:30 am and walk through the farmers market with Ella Daniels, learning about the market’s vendors and programs. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in Mill City Cooks, a live cooking demonstration and food sampling program offered every first and third weekend at the Mill City Farmers Market. Following the tour, there will be a brief Q&A inside the Mill City Museum Rail Corridor focused on MCFM's mission and impact, including Next Stage Grants, which has provided over $395,000 in micro-grants to local, sustainable farmers and food producers since 2013. Afterward, each attendee will receive $10 in market tokens and are welcome to shop and enjoy the rest of the morning at the market! Space is limited. Your student will learn basic techniques in mindful breathing designed to help reduce stress, anger and anxiety. They will also practice emotional awareness and growth mindset through journaling, reflection and play with kendama in a series of progressively harder challenges and games. Students can expect to be active and moving during our class. No prior kendama experience is necessary! Students will receive a Kendama to take home and practice.
