Art, art, art! We will explore a variety of art projects in this class through the lens of different Latin American cultures. While this is not a Spanish language class, this class will be taught in Spanish. This is an art class that is primarily for Spanish-speaking students, but is open to anyone who likes to create art! Curious about a new medium? Need space to explore creative ideas? In Art as Play, we’ll do just that - play with a variety of supplies, try new methods and explore our creative abilities and ideas. This is a safe and supportive environment to try, begin and be in your artistic practice. We’ll have acrylic paint, watercolors, oil pastels and collage supplies available, as well as examples of how to engage with those mediums singularly or as mixed media. No pressure on the final product, just a space to enjoy the journey of creating and following artistic curiosity and intuition.

Step into the colorful, intricate world of paper art. This meet-up is all about using simple strips to "paint" with color and light. This session is perfect for anyone looking to slow down, engage their hands, and explore the "Impressionist" side of paper craft. No experience needed just a willingness to try something new. There is a very rich history of zines, and the practice of making zines is an excellent form of sharing and expressing in a free way that can be anything you want! We will look at examples of one page zines, then start our own zines. The second week we will finish our one page zines and share them with our classmates. There will be an optional meet-up in between our 1st and 2nd class at a local Minneapolis shop that offers Zines. No experience necessary, just bring your interests and curiosities.

Join Craft Club, a fun and inclusive creative space where students of all abilities come together to make art, learn new skills, and build friendships. We work with clay, paper mache, paint, beads, and other mediums. This club is partnered with Unified through Special Olympics of Minnesota, celebrating inclusion and teamwork through hands-on projects and creative expression. A Special Olympics Minnesota (SOMN) Unified after-school club is an inclusive student organization that brings together youth with and without intellectual disabilities to collaborate, socialize, and lead. Operating under SOMN’s Unified Champion Schools initiative, these clubs focus on building meaningful friendships, co-organizing inclusive sports or recreational activities, and running school-wide campaigns that promote acceptance and respect. By giving every student an equal voice in leadership and social events, the club works to eliminate stigma and foster a culture where everyone feels valued and included. This is an ALC Extended Learning class and is paid for with state and federal funding.

All Grades: Black Affinity Group - only Thursdays: October 22nd - March 25th This group is for students that identify as Black, Afro-Latin@ or African-American in our Dual Language school. The group provides opportunities to share and celebrate Black cultural knowledge and identity. Black Affinity Groups who are supported by school staff, families, and community members.
