Artist as Alchemist: Leonora Carrington (Camden)

As a young person, artist Leonora Carrington suffered a series of traumatic events that led to estrangement from her family and time spent in an insane asylum.  To cope, she turned away from Catholicism and embraced a sort of self-made magic to create the home and family of her dreams.  Her incredible journey is expressed in wildly surreal paintings that give Salvador Dali a run for his money.
