We will reach out via email, if a spot becomes available- silvia.ihme@mpls.k12.mn.us ** This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies; and provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) professionals take over. Successful completion will award an American Red Cross certificate: Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid that is valid for 2 years. This course requires completion of online modules (about 7 hours) that must be completed before the first day of class. Look for the link to access the online modules in the confirmation email upon registering. All class sessions must be attended in order to receive certification. This class is being offered for FREE to those who are ages 15 to 21 due to a Lifeguard Grant. To participate in the Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) Recertification course, participants must: * Hold a current certification, or expired by no more than 30 days, in American Red Cross Lifeguarding that included training in deep water 7 feet or deeper. *Complete 7 hours of online modules before the beginning of the first day of class. Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest: • Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Masters Swim Practice (Southwest Pool)Aquatics AdultRequirement: comfortable with repeated front crawl swims of 200 yards or longer. USMS registration is no longer required it is an option. You can join the Minnesota Masters Team if you are interested in competing in pool or lake races. Certified experienced coaches will work with participants who are looking for conditioning, stroke work, and varied training in a team setting, Coaches work with a broad range of backgrounds, interests, speeds, and ability levels, to give daily practices a mental and physical challenge. Participants are not required to compete, but participant interest does include preparation for racing in pool races, open water, and triathlons. Swim Team - (Franklin) - Age Group 1 (Ages 8-14)Aquatics YouthWaitlistAge Group 1 - (Ages 8-14yrs 11 mo) - 60 minute session up to four times weekly) Focus on stroke, start; turn efficiency; and speed while learning to think about race strategy. Participants must be able to swim 200 yards of Front Craw (with side breathing) without stopping Perform all four competition strokes * Front Crawl & Backstroke consistently with solid technique (good head & body position, correct stroke and kick) * Breaststroke and Butterfly - Swim 50 yards (1 lap) consistently with at least one of either the arms or legs "competition legal" **If a participant needs to build endurance, they may be asked to attend the Novice group temporarily.** NOTE: These practice sessions are in partnership with Minneapolis Lake Monsters swim team.
