Gym Games (K-6)SewardJoin Fall after school in the gym for a 11 week club where you get to move! Shake, shuffle, and slide off the school day as students engage in weekly exercises and gym games between 4 and 5:30 that invigorate your student to increase focus and a body calm for time at home! For students grades K-5. In order to ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education is now offering fees on a sliding scale. We're moving to a sliding scale model for program fees so our youth programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. The different prices reflect the average cost of offering a class as well as discounted options and options that help us cover our administrative costs. Fees cover instructor pay, class supplies, program materials, marketing and scholarships. Families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. As always, we will continue to offer full scholarships upon request. When families participate as they are able, in all levels of our sliding scale, the whole program becomes self-sustaining. Gym Games with Active Solutions (Grades 2-5)KeewaydinMr. Doherty will be teaching our Gym Games with Active Solutions class once again! Your student is invited to experience more movement, fun, and team building activities during each session in this fun after-school class. Activities include lifelong sports, recreation and fitness: most all individual and team sports, track and field, kickball, tag games, floor hockey, volleyball, soccer, and many others. The class will take place in the Keewaydin gymnasium. Math, reading, health, nutrition and wellness is incorporated into the class lessons. Lessons are designed to keep students engaged in learning activities and to keep their heart rates elevated. Character building, cooperative skills, individual success and safety are all emphasized. Community Education uses a sliding scale model for program fees so our afterschool programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. Families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. By more clearly articulating our lower cost options, we have removed the barrier that some may have felt in making scholarship requests. When families participate at the higher price levels, they help make the program more sustainable. Extended Learning (ALC) classes are free. Hammocks & Nature (Entering Gr. 6-9)Kenwood Super Summer CampsChill out and enjoy the wonders of nature that can be found in our beautiful city. We will spend time exploring different locations around the neighborhood and relax in our hammocks. Register your child for a morning class and an afternoon class and we will provide lunch and supervision free of charge from 12-1 pm. When signing up for the morning class, you will be able to choose the option “Stay for free lunch and recess from 12:00 – 1:00 pm” as you complete your registration.
