Safe Schools & Strong Communities: I Am Safe. Portable Mind-Body Coping Skills for Mental Health (Washburn)

The tragic violence at Annunciation has deeply impacted our community. While many of us understand that mind-body strategies—such as breathing, movement, and mindfulness—can support relief from stress and anxiety, it can feel challenging to apply and share these skills in an accessible way.

Based on the guidebook I Am Safe: Trauma-Responsive Practices in Crisis Mental Health, this interactive session offers simple, trauma-responsive tools that can be used proactively for personal well-being and shared with others—at home, at work, and in the broader community.

Participants will:

  • Learn breathing, movement, and relaxation strategies
  • Experience how mindfulness and the Inner Resources framework support physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
  • Create a simple toolkit to promote a culture of public mental health and collective resilience.
