Edible Insect Hunting: Japanese Beetles (Southwest)
Are Japanese Beetles eating your garden? Let's go edible bug hunting! Join Tim Clemens from Ironwood Foraging Co. and learn about Japanese Beetles, an invasive edible scarab. You'll learn how to find, identify, trap, and cook these delicious and nutritious insects. Locations will be in the Minneapolis/Edina area depending on availability. Electrical Circuits (Summer)
This is a two part session class. Part 1- - The instructor will discuss electrical theory and safety procedures when working around electricity. This is an introductory class designed for homeowners, or those who want to learn how to complete basic home electrical repairs for themselves. Students will learn about the different types of wire, circuit breakers, light switches, and wall receptacles and how to replace them. Part 2 - - There will be a “hands-on” application in class for each student to wire up three different circuits and how to test them. Information will be presented on tools needed and their uses. Each student will need to bring with them to class a common household type pliers and 2 screwdrivers, a regular flat tip and a cross tip (Phillips) one for the “Hands-on” exercise. Mushroom Hunting 1 (Southwest)
Discover the world of mushrooms in this 3-hour hands-on beginner mushroom hunting hike with Ironwood Foraging Co. Lead Guide, Tim Clemens. You'll learn how to find and safely identify edible wild mushrooms. Mushroom hunting equipment, mushroom identification skills, fungal biology, mushroom recipes, and resources to continue your learning will all be covered. Location is within one hour of Minneapolis and will be emailed to attendees prior to the workshop. Walking distance ~1-3 miles. NOTE: Location is within one hour of Minneapolis. Location details will be emailed the Monday prior to the workshop. If we go to a State Park, that there will be an additional $7 Daily/$35 annual vehicle entry permit needed that can be purchased at the State Park entrance office. Urban Foraging Workshop
This is a great class to begin your foraging journey and experience urban landscapes through a forager's eyes. Learn about the abundant edible and medicinal landscape all around you. Topics include: wild plant and mushroom identification, foraging ethics, safety, tools, legality and other resources. The terrain is level, the pace is slow, and difficulty level should be easy, but may not be wheelchair accessible. No discounts. If class is full, please enroll for the waitlist.
