Band weaving techniques have been practiced for centuries across cultures to create straps, trims, belts, and decorative bands. In this class, we’ll explore three techniques: inkle, card, and heddle weaving. Through guided instruction, you’ll learn to warp and weave on a narrow-band loom or backstrap setup, understand how pattern is created through each technique, and practice finishing techniques. As we weave, we’ll also explore the cultural and historical context of band weaving traditions practiced throughout the world. This class uses some hand strength (tensioning yarns) and is adaptable to varying levels of dexterity. All experience and skill levels are welcome.

Dive into the art of paper weaving! This relaxing and creative process offers endless opportunities to experiment with color, pattern, and texture. In this hands-on class, students will explore a variety of weaving techniques. Learn to design and cut weaving bases, experiment with color harmonies and textures, incorporate found papers, add texture using layering, and finishing and display options. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist looking for inspiration, this course offers a balance of structure and freedom to explore your own style. By the end of the class, you’ll have at least two completed cards and the skills and materials to continue creating at home.
