Mississippi River Gorge Fall Colors Hike w/ Sierra ClubTrips, Tours & Special EventsEnjoy a fall morning with a hike on the Winchell Trail that traces the edge of the Mississippi River gorge. From the trail, we look out across the river to the opposite slope, and hopefully enjoy the fall colors as the sun shines through from the east. Eagles and other birds and wildlife might be seen from this trail just steps away from a busy urban neighborhood. Walk will cross under the railroad bridge and go to the 'white sands beach'. Walking will be on dirt trails with one hill and some steps. Total distance is about 2 miles Meet on the West River Parkway at the intersection of W. River Parkway and E. 24th Street. Wirth Park Hills & Bog Walk w/ Sierra ClubTrips, Tours & Special EventsExplore the glacial geology and the fall colors of the oak-woodland in Minneapolis’s largest forested park. After climbing some hills, we will visit the “quaking” bog and identify some bog adapted plants. Total distance is about 2 miles.
