A bite-sized version of our Heart of Mpls tour, the sunset tour begins and ends at the Boom Island marina, a railroad tie factory-turned green space just northeast of downtown. After a short paddle skill introduction on land, your guide will lead you on a loop of the downtown riverfront. Enjoy one of the most distinctive skyline views from anywhere in town, a visit to a hidden lagoon, and relax above the falls that carved out our city. Our guides each have their own style and stories to tell, but all will share in pulling back the veil of time and pointing out various histories written, washed away, and sometimes still visible on the banks of the Mississippi. As with all PBGC tours, the route and duration is subject to flexibility depending on weather conditions, water level & flow-rate, and group dynamics. Distance will be reflected accordingly, but averages 3-4 miles on this stretch. **What to bring:** - Dress for water! Wear lightweight clothing that you wouldn’t mind getting wet - hot tip, have a dry layer in your car to change into after just in case. - Hats and sunglasses for the glare off the water - Sunscreen/Water bottle - guides should have extra, but we encourage use of a reusable water bottle to lessen reliance on single-use plastics. - Snacks for your guide - just kidding, but never a bad idea for yourself. Minneapolis is home to the largest, contiguous skyway system in the world! Originally designed to counter the 1950s post war suburban boom by revitalizing the city's retail core, today the second story walkways connect 80 city blocks and meander more than 9 miles. This is a great way to see the city — inside and out — during cool weather, hot weather, rainy days and the brutally long Minnesota winter, so pretty much year-round! There are so many treasures within downtown's unique architectural landscape, and the skyway system is sometimes the only way to see them. Highlights: Foshay Tower, IDS Center (tallest building in Minneapolis), Capella Tower, Wells Fargo Center, Target Arena, Government Plaza, Minneapolis City Hall, Minneapolis Public Service Building (public art collection), Nicollet Mall, The Dayton's Project, and the Mary Tyler Moore Statue Tour is limited to 12 people, so sign up before it sell out! Saint Paul is a city of neighborhoods(17). This special historic West 7th/Fort Road Neighborhood tour will give you an intimate look at the oldest neighborhood in Saint Paul. West 7th is an urban success story which has reinvented itself but has been able to keep its historic look and cultural identity. Learn about the organizing efforts led by community people and businesses to save and improve this historic neighborhood. Our tour guide will be historian Dave Bredemus, who has lived or worked in the neighborhood his whole life and has been involved with many of the projects to improve the neighborhood over the last 50 years. Little Bohemia and Uppertown Walking Tour Tour this area of West 7th Street which was founded in the late 1830’s and largely settled in the 1850’s and 1860’s. See some of the oldest and most historic homes, businesses, and parks in Minnesota, walking through this neighborhood in the West Seventh area of Saint Paul. Visit a unique historic district of old stone houses that pre-date the Civil War. This area of Saint Paul is the oldest living neighborhood in the Twin Cities. Visit ethnic churches like St Stanislaus and the ethnic hall CSPS Hall. Hear stories of early immigrants of Czech background who settled in this area. See homes of early Minnesota governors and mayors of St. Paul. On these walking tours, we will visit and see places very few people know about. The walking tours will be approximately 2 1/2 hours and cover roughly 2 miles at a very leisurely pace. Tours will start at the West Seventh Community Center located at 265 Oneida St., St. Paul. Led by Rev. Jim Bear Jacobs (Mohican) this tour offers an opportunity to learn about Minnesota history from a Native perspective through story-telling and experiencing the sites in silence / meditation / reflection. We visit sites located near the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers, what the Dakota refer to as Bdote, or “meeting place of rivers” including Fort Snelling State Park, Dakota Internment Camp following The Dakota-U.S. War, Pilot Knob Hill, a traditional burial ground. All paths are accessible. Meet at Church of St. Peter, 1405 Sibley Memorial Highway, St. Paul, MN 55120 Group will carpool/caravan between the sites. Transportation to the Church of St. Peter is on your own. Ages 16+. Bring your own bag lunch. There are bathrooms at the Church of St. Peter and a portable bathroom at the second stop. This is a great class to begin your foraging journey and experience urban landscapes through a forager's eyes. Learn about the abundant edible and medicinal landscape all around you. Topics include: wild plant and mushroom identification, foraging ethics, safety, tools, legality and other resources. Locations will be in the Minneapolis/Edina area. We will email the location to you prior to the workshop. Workshop locations may vary depending on what is available at that time.
