The Lifeguard Conditioning Course, helps build endurance and familiarize you with swim skills needed for attendance of the Lifeguard certification course. We will reach out via email, if a spot becomes available- silvia.ihme@mpls.k12.mn.us ** This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies; and provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) professionals take over. Successful completion will award an American Red Cross certificate: Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid that is valid for 2 years. This course requires completion of online modules (about 7 hours) that must be completed before the first day of class. Look for the link to access the online modules in the confirmation email upon registering. All class sessions must be attended in order to receive certification. This class is being offered for FREE to those who are ages 15 to 21 due to a Lifeguard Grant. To participate in the Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) Recertification course, participants must: * Hold a current certification, or expired by no more than 30 days, in American Red Cross Lifeguarding that included training in deep water 7 feet or deeper. *Complete 7 hours of online modules before the beginning of the first day of class. Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest: • Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed) • Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs • Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both Prerequisite 2: Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds: Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water.
