Supporting a Loved One at End of Life (Summer)Health, Wellness & SafetyThis class will cover caregiving skills including creating a care network, self care, advanced care planning (it will cover suggestions and resources for planning, it will not include an advanced care planning process itself), physical changes at end of life, and engaging supportive professionals. Students will be invited to think about and consider these topics so that when they are called upon to care for a loved one, they will have already digested this information. This will benefit students with family members with a loved one who has a life limiting diagnosis (ALS, dementia, Parkinson's, etc) or who are simply aging. This class will cover what to expect for loved ones who engage in advanced care planning and for loved ones who avoid planning ahead. Students will be given a copy of "When Death is Near" and "Hard Choices for Loving People" to keep as a reference for later use and to use during class.Adult Enrichment Summer 2026 -

TREK Program: Recreational Activities by Bike (Entering Grades 7-9)Southwest Super Summer Camps at Lake Harriet UpperHike and explore the Minnehaha Falls area or take an all-day trip on the Hopkins-Cedar or Luce Line Trails which is up to apx. a 15 mile ride. Enjoy a trail trek in Woodlake Nature Center. Canoe on Lake of the Isles and Cedar Lake. (To participate, you must demonstrate basic swimming skills and be able to handle yourself in deep water. We will have our Aquatics staff confirm your water skills on the first day of class so bring your swimsuit). Please check over your bike to make sure the tires are inflated fully and that the brakes function properly. A bicycle helmet, water bottles and a good lock is also required. Bring a bag lunch and snacks, or money to purchase them. To ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education is now offering fees on a sliding scale. TREK Program: Urban Explorers by Bus (Entering Grades 7-9)Southwest Super Summer Camps at Lake Harriet UpperVisit the sculpture garden and conservatory, play mini golf at the Walker Art Center, shop at the Minneapolis Farmers Market. Explore Gold Medal Park downtown and the Guthrie Theater Yellow Room Infinity Bridge, a museum and other urban highlights of Minneapolis. Students will travel by MTC city bus each day. To ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education is now offering fees on a sliding scale. The possibilities are endless! Actions figures, props, and backdrops will be available for filming in class. Handle all of the technical details including using a digital movie camera, filming scenes, stop-motion animation, digital editing, and adding finishing special effects and transitions to the movie. TinkerCAD will teach you 3D design and 3D printing! While learning 3D design skills, students will make custom D&D D4s (4-sided) and D10s (10-sided). The History and Future of the Metro Mississippi's Dams (Southwest)Trips, Tours & Special EventsThe locks and dams in the Mississippi River reflect a 19th-century, industry-focused vision for the river. Is it time to change our vision for the future? Studies are underway right now to consider changing or removing the dams. This walking tour will cover the history, current state, and complex future possibilities for our metro Mississippi. We will cover about one mile on paved paths. If possible, we'll visit the Lock and Dam 1 observation deck (elevator available). Tour led by Friends of the Mississippi River. Threes and Fours (3-4yr) SeparatingPreschoolers (36 Months to Kindergarten Enrollment)This is a separating class (child and caregiver spend time together and apart). The age range listed for this class is based on the child's age on the date the class session begins. Early childhood time focuses on developing school readiness skills through play and learning activities. Caregiver education focuses on topics relevant to a preschooler & preparing children for kindergarten. A limited number of Infants 0-4 months are welcome to stay with caregivers during discussion time. Please enroll your young infant only in the Sibling Care option. NOTE: These young infants will remain with the caregivers during discussion time. ECFE classes are priced on a sliding fee schedule based on family income.
