This is a separating class (child and caregiver spend time together and apart). The age range listed for this class is based on the child's age on the date the class session begins. Sing, dance, and move to the rhythm! This lively class invites children and their caregivers to explore music through songs, instruments, rhythm games, and creative movement. From shaking scarves to stomping feet, kids build coordination, listening skills, and joyful connections. A limited number of Infants 0-4 months are welcome to stay with caregivers during discussion time. Please enroll your young infant only in the Sibling Care option. NOTE: These young infants will remain with the caregivers during discussion time. ECFE classes are priced on a sliding fee schedule based on family income. Please choose the fee that best fits your family budget. A 10% surcharge will be applied to fees for Non-Minneapolis residents.

This is a 9 week, Fall session class. End of session performance is usually the evening of the last day of class (Tuesday, Jan 12). Historically around 5:50/6pm. We are still coordinating with Musical Theater of MN on how it will look this year, but we anticipate it to look very similar to last year. We ask that all students who sign up continue for the whole session (as the whole production relies on all parts to be present). This program will enhance confidence and allow children to embrace their love for the arts. We will work on dance, voice, and theater techniques through a series of different exercises and games. You will learn and rehearse songs from well-known musicals such as Hamilton, The Lion King, Aladdin, leading to a mini in-class performance on the last day. Note: Minneapolis Community Education has adjusted our pricing model for after school programs to maintain high quality programming while also responding to greater financial constraints. You will see the following pricing options when registering: Class Fee: This rate reflects the true cost of providing the program. Class Fee + Scholarship Fund: Families who are able to contribute more can select a rate above the class fee. The additional amount helps support our scholarship fund and provides access to reduced rates for other families. We are committed to making sure all families have access to high quality Community Education programs, regardless of their ability to pay. Join Myriel Chef Karyn Tomlinson and her team for one special night of pre fixe dinner focused around the stories of our farmers during this season of bounty. A dinner at Myriel in is an intimate, curated experience resulting from and contributing to the ecosystem of farmers we are a part of. We use only local produce grown by our farmer friends, practice only whole animal butchery and whole food cooking with French technique. Two seatings: 4:45pm and 7:30pm. We can accommodate Vegetarian and Pescatarian and Gluten Free. We cannot accommodate Vegan diets or other dietary restrictions for this dinner. Ticket sales close Friday, October 30. Myriel is named after Tomlinson's favorite character in the novel Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, Bishop Myriel, who receives the ex-convict and social outcast Jean Valjean into his home when he about to have dinner- instead of throwing him out, he sets the table with silver settings and invites him to join. This kindness is the beginning of a transformation in Valjean's life. Join Simone Rendon, Ojibwe and Lakota forager, as she shares stories and traditional medicines. We will mix herbs that Simone has harvested and some that were gifted to her for you to mix with essential oils and add to fragrance to their Bath Soak. Each person will bring home 4oz of handmade container of salt/oils for a relaxing bath with knowledge of how the plants help aid your skin and body health. Led by Dakota people, this cultural cruise along the Mississippi River takes you on a transformative voyage through time connecting the past and present of Dakota life. With each stop at cultural landmarks and sacred sites, we will listen to ancestral teachings and stories that have lasted through the ages, gaining a deeper appreciation for the Dakota people's profound relationships with the river, land and the stars above. As we navigate the mighty waters of the Mississippi River, our journey will help others see the river through Dakota eyes. From ancient legends to pivotal moments in history, the boat becomes a floating classroom where captivating stories come to life. We will return to shore with new understandings of the harmony between the Dakota people and the rivers and lands they call home. Dakota guides will include: Marlena Myles, Fern Renville, Blue Hummingbird Woman Meet at the Watergate Marina, 2500 Crosby Farm Road, Saint Paul Minnesota, 55116. Crosby Farm Road is at the intersection of Shepherd Road and Gannon Road. Transportation to the Watergate Marina is on your own. Beverages will be available to purchase on board the boat. Join April Smith of Bear Clan Designs as she hosts a Wild Rice Processing Event. Three wild rice experts will demonstrate the traditional steps of processing and finishing wild rice. Participants will learn how freshly harvested wild rice is transformed into a food while gaining a deeper understanding of the care, time, and cultural knowledge that goes into this important food. Wild rice or Manoomin, holds a deep cultural, spiritual, and historical importance for the Anishinaabe People and other Indigenous peoples of the Great Lakes region. This event will also include a Plant Medicine Workshop, where participants will make a tea blend to take home.Come gather, learn, and share in a full day of culture, food, and community connection. A traditional Indigenous lunch will be provided. Group meets at the Minneapolis American Indian Center.Cancellations and transfers require a one week advance notice. Caregivers will engage with their child in nature-based learning experiences both indoors and outdoors. Caregiver education will explore how to lead your child's nature learning. Explore the natural world around us and get creative with all sorts of nature-based arts and crafts projects. From stick sculptures to leaf art and so much more! In order to ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education is collecting program fees so our youth programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. The different prices reflect the actual cost of offering a class as well as options that help us cover our administrative costs. Fees cover instructor pay, class supplies, program materials, marketing and scholarships. The actual cost of the class is the first listed however, families are asked to pick the price that they are able to pay. As always, we will continue to offer scholarships upon request. When families participate as they are able, in all levels of our sliding scale, the whole program becomes self-sustaining. Thank you for your consideration as you sign up for youth programs!
