Renter Rights, Eviction Prevention & Tenant Education (South)
The Renter Rights Workshop is a free interactive presentation of tenant’s legal rights and responsibilities, including the Federal and State legal protections that are in place to help individuals and families secure and maintain housing of their own choice. We will discuss how to file a complaint for discrimination with HUD and what to expect during the process. You’ll get an overview of what the eviction process is in MN and what actions can be taken if housing court is scheduled. Also covered are renter’s insurance, affordable housing and money management when looking for your next home.
Presented by HOME Line, a nonprofit Minnesota tenant advocacy organization. HOME Line provides free legal, organizing, educational and advocacy services so tenants throughout Minnesota can solve their own rental housing problems. HOME Line works to improve public and private policies relating to rental housing by involving affected tenants in the process. The tenant hotline has advised over 300,000 renter households since 1992 and averages over 1,000 households advised each month.
