Trauma, Regulation, and Empowerment During Turbulent Times (South)
Gain practical tools to help you stay as calm and clear-headed as possible during high-stakes and/or traumatic situations. Leave with somatic regulation tools and resources about healing pathways.
This session will explore the basics of trauma, including what it is, how it affects us and our ability to function, and how to regulate our nervous systems and needs during and after moments of intense stress and/or crisis. This presentation will also provide tips for encouraging empowerment, self-advocacy, and connection with self and others as ways of promoting wellbeing and safety. There will be opportunity for interaction, experiential elements, and opportunities for thoughtful self-reflection.
Dr. Stevi Shively
Dr. Stephanie (Stevi) Shively is an instructor at the Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing, where she teaches courses on narrative & wellbeing and executive function, and in addition, through Universe, Inc., delivers wellbeing programming. She holds a Ph.D. in Medical Humanities from the University of Texas Medical Branch, where she studied medical traumatization and burnout in physicians, and an MA in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Shively is a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in clinical burnout, perfectionism, academic/occupational distress, self-compassion, and neurodivergence (particularly late-diagnosed ADHD), and is currently working towards her clinical counseling license.
Dr. Shively has worked in and around medical burnout for over a decade, including as a Medical Burnout and Traumatization Consultant for organizations such as the Minnesota Medical Association. Dr. Shively has spoken about burnout and clinician distress at conferences around the country, including for the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, the Health Humanities Consortium, and The Generalists in Medical Education.
