Backyard Composting (Washburn at Las Estrellas)

Kira works with Hennepin County’s Environment and Energy Department on the Waste Reduction and Recycling team. She manages the county’s school recycling program, helping K–12 schools reduce waste through recycling and organics collection programs, with a focus on food waste composting. Through annual grant funding, she supports schools in implementing sustainable waste reduction initiatives and provides educational presentations for students and staff on reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting.

In addition to her work with schools, Kira partners with businesses and nonprofit organizations through Hennepin County’s business recycling grant program, helping organizations start or improve recycling and organics collection efforts.
