Learn about different organizing styles that highlight different tools in the toolkit that could be applied to current efforts. This class is participatory so bring your best thinking on how to grow community strength and power.

Community Organizing Instructor

Joan Vanhala has an over 30 years experience as a community organizer from block club to neighborhood organizing along with coalition organizing and targeted organizing campaigns. As a Phillips resident, Joan has organized successful local and regional campaigns such as Midtown Greenway, Good Neighbor Agreement with Smith Foundry, Seward Longfellow Restorative Justice Partnership, Stops for Us Campaign on the Green Line, and the Equitable Development Scorecard. In addition, Joan worked at Hennepin County for 8 years facilitating authentic community engagement on the Metro Blue Line Extension Project.
