Scott McCloud defines “comics” as “juxtaposed pictorial and other images in deliberate sequence,” but comics are more complicated (and more fun) than that sounds. From the simple newspaper comic strip to the award winning graphic novel, comics are all about structure. This class introduces the history of comics and its structure, encouraging students to utilize different techniques to tell stories.

Hello! My name is Claire Wyman and I am a freelance illustrator based in Brooklyn. I graduated with a BFA in Illustration and a Concentration in Literary Arts and Studies from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2019. Since then, I have been working with a number of clients. My work has been featured in publications such as The New Yorker and Narratively. In addition to freelance work, I am an instructor for The Art Studio NY. I am always looking for new projects and collaborations.
